Just because City of Heroes’ current servers are still rogue server doesn’t mean their content will be locked in perpetuity. Case in point: The Homecoming servers are being patched up today with an update that touches every single Dominator Assault powerset.

When we say every powerset, we mean it: The patch notes detail a wide swath of adjustments, and the vast majority of these changes are on the buff side of the spectrum with damage increases, recharge reductions, and cast time reductions across the board – all much needed upgrades for one of the most maligned and underplayed archetypes in the game. There are a few outliers among some of the Assault sets, however; for example, Icy Assault will see more damage but longer recharge times and Martial Assault will see tweaks to damage scaling, recharge speed, and damage.

The patch has also changed Snipe powers across multiple classes in a pretty significant manner. Players will no longer need to have ToHit buffs to achieve a fast Snipe attack; you’ll need only to have attacked or have been attacked in the last eight seconds for one to go off. As a result, ToHit buffs will now affect how much damage fast Snipes inflict, to a maximum of +22%.

There are a number of other updates such as changes to some Stealth powers, a few tweaks to Devices, and an additional 676 base items introduced to the supergroup base editor.

In the spring of 2019, gamers uncovered a secret City of Heroes server running using the sunsetted game’s original code, which was ultimately turned over to the community. There are now multiple public and private servers for the beloved superhero MMORPG, with over 100,000 people on Homecoming alone. NCsoft has not commented publicly or taken legal action on them and is still in talks regarding the game’s future as of August 2019.
