Cube World’s closed beta begins September 23 – go get your Steam keys

When Picroma’s Wolfram von Funck resurfaced earlier this month to announce that 2013 voxelbox Cube World was not only back in development but hitting Steam with a beta, I was excited – but also skeptical. After all, this was a game whose alpha we paid to play six years ago, and we’re all still waiting, though at least now we know why it took so long. In any case, that wait will soon be over, as now we have a date for the closed beta.

Cube World is officially starting it’s closed beta on Steam on September 23rd 2019,” the mod for the Cube World subreddit has posted. “It requires Alpha access to the current Cube World to play.” Hopefully you remember your old Picroma account info because you’ll need to log in to that to collect your Steam key.

I gave it a try myself, and it does indeed work – just head to the “MY GAMES” tab once you’re logged in and scroll on down.

I can even confirm that the key it spit out for me successfully applied to my Steam account and started up the game, though of course there’s nothing to play just yet. Wheee!

Do note that the Reddit thread says the game requires Windows 8.1 or 10, though there’s a workaround to get it up and running on Windows 7. Good ol’ Windows 7.
