Rumor: A complete overhaul is in the works for Anthem

...huh.

So, you know how Anthem scaled back its content updates and seems to have started moving into quiet acceptance of being at a dead end? Well, the rumor mill is now working to suggest something far less lethal in the game’s future. A report from Kotaku claims that sources within Bioware confirms the developer is in the midst of working on a reboot of the game behind closed doors, with names being floated such as Anthem 2.0 or Anthem Next.

Why you wouldn’t just use Anthem: Second Verse when it’s right there seems inexplicable, but hey, rumors.

The story claims that many parts of the project are in flux, including how things will be released to players, whether a rolling series of upgrades a la No Man’s Sky or a major update like Destiny: The Taken King, or even an entirely new title (although the rumor claims existing players will not need to re-buy the game). If you’ve been hoping that the game will pull things together, it’s certainly a pleasant sort of rumor; time will tell whether it’s true or not.
