So here’s a fun Friday surprise: Ship of Heroes boss Casey McGeever asked fans what the team – all working from home – could do to help them. “Let us play!” everyone said. And that’s exactly what’s happening.
Heroic Games says that all fans – not just folks who’ve actually donated to the game – will be invited in for a look at the character creation tool, the very same one the studio tested a few times last year.
“OK, so we need a name for what you guys asked us to do — allow people to jump into the CCT and the city during the coronavirus lockdown. We’re going to start letting people into the game as we see it as devs, each day. Which means it is not a highly polished Beta, it is the current version with just a few things shut off. There may be a few bugs, especially on some of the new or transferred costume pieces. So the first thing we need are 20-30 volunteers who want to go in and find problems for us, before we open it up even wider. And there will be a few issues. But we may start tonight or tomorrow with this coronavirus support event.”
You’ll need to hit the sign-up form and send the team a note with your email address for your personal invite.
“On the good side, this should be something you can do with your kids, if needed,” McGeever says. “They can be involved in the design of a new character.”
