CIG’s Articles of Association reveal a partnership that might mean VR for Star Citizen or console launch for Squadron 42

A poster on the Star Citizen subreddit has played an intriguing game of connect the dots that might mean some interesting things for the game’s future, assuming suppositions are correct.

It all starts with CIG’s Resolution of Articles of Association posted on February 11th, specifically page 11, which lists VGDC Lienholding LLC among the companies that are part of CIG’s US group.

This particular LLC is a new name in the list of US companies, and so the redditor traced the company back to a loan charge made two years ago to a Manchester, UK, company known as Icesprite. Icesprite, in turn, is owned by Firesprite, which is a gamedev studio in Liverpool, UK, that has made a VR game known as The Persistence as well as other games like the PS4 game The Playroom as well as a VR version for PSVR. The thread continues toward a list of over 140 partners that are working on games for the Xbox X including Firesprite.

So what does this ultimately mean for Star Citizen? One can certainly offer up all sorts of speculation, but the redditor posits three different outcomes of this association between CIG and Firesprite: Firesprite is working on tools for CIG that relate to VR functionality; Firesprite is working on a console release for Squadron 42; or Firesprite will bring the multiplayer mode Theaters of War as a standalone console release.

Of course, all of this could come to ultimately nothing, but it is a fascinating trail to follow.
