I was strolling around the PvP areas on Dathomir on SWG Legends the other day and a stumbled into a building that was clearly marked as a memorial, as it held statues named for several fallen developers on the original game – including Brad McQuaid. It actually really hit me hard because I wasn’t expecting to see it at all, having no idea it was there. I was just casually swapping to on-duty status so I could snoop the rewards vendor and then bam. Feels.
The memorial events for Reckful in WoW were huge. And CCP Games recently tweeted about Molea too – it’s a massive player-made graveyard in EVE Online. Look at all the anchors around this system. Chills.
The Molea Cemetary
For the last 12 years, this site has served as a cemetery for Capsuleers who have passed away. Capsuleers from across New Eden made a pilgrimage to this site to anchor a can with mementos for their fallen friends.#tweetfleet pic.twitter.com/C6uVkucEBC

I’m sad that things like this have to exist, but I’m also fascinated at how we memorialize people in digital spaces. Have you ever visited a player or developer memorial in an MMO?

Just the ones for Spock/Leonard Nimoy in Star Trek Online and the one for other people related to the franchise that have died
Just the other day I ran into a curiously good looking tomb in the DDO Graveyard zone. Turned out to be a memorial for Gary Gygax. Was a nice touch.
Yes, but…
In games I’m an explorer; I want to see everything there is to see, experience everything that can be experienced, etc. This means while I will seek out and visit each and every in-game memorial, it’s not because they are memorials, but merely because they are content.
I don’t really assign importance to memorials, in- or out of game. It’s not that I don’t want to remember those that aren’t with us anymore; I just find the act of building monuments to them to be, for the most part, pointless (and, in the real world, it’s often done more to inflate the ego of whichever group managed to get the monument built than to actually pay homage to the subject of the monument).
(sigh) Yes.
Not for real people memorials. But I just checked the article on wowhead and was surprised how many there are in WoW: https://www.wowhead.com/a-guide-to-in-game-memorials
ps/ eh. minimalistway beat me to it
I remember reading a guide for WoW memorials and NPCs named after real people, i ran around zones visiting every one of them while reading the guide, i need to do this again:

Other than stumbling upon things unintentionally the only one I meant to visit was the memorial to Gamespot/Giant Bomb person Ryan Davis. I’m curious if the outpost is still out there but don’t know how to check on that kind of thing.
Yes. STO when Nimoy died, I made the trek (pun not intended) to the memorial they put on Vulcan for him, as well as visited the growing memorials for the actors and others related to the shows that have passed on both Earth and the Klingon homeworld. I have also gone out of my way to visit the old memorial in WOW in the old barrens, back in… Burning Crusade I think it was.
Not intentionally, but its is kinda neat when I come across them by exploring.
I saw the one for Aradune in a forgotten little corner of East Karana. Not sure why they put it there.
