The Daily Grind: Have you ever visited a memorial in an MMO?

SWG Legends Brad McQuaidmemorial, snapped by Bree

I was strolling around the PvP areas on Dathomir on SWG Legends the other day and a stumbled into a building that was clearly marked as a memorial, as it held statues named for several fallen developers on the original game – including Brad McQuaid. It actually really hit me hard because I wasn’t expecting to see it at all, having no idea it was there. I was just casually swapping to on-duty status so I could snoop the rewards vendor and then bam. Feels.

The memorial events for Reckful in WoW were huge. And CCP Games recently tweeted about Molea too – it’s a massive player-made graveyard in EVE Online. Look at all the anchors around this system. Chills.

I’m sad that things like this have to exist, but I’m also fascinated at how we memorialize people in digital spaces.¬†Have you ever visited a player or developer memorial in an MMO?
