Playing Sea of Thieves is all about sailing on the high seas, but it turns out that they’re not particularly lonely waters. The game has announced passing 15 million total players across all of its various platforms, a swift increase when the title had only hit 10 million as of January this year. The announcement doesn’t mention concurrent player numbers, of course, but it certainly implies that 2020 has been a banner year for the game in that department as well.
Of course, most people will not be shocked to learn that Steam is a big chunk of why those numbers are so good, with the game consistently showing up in the “most played” list and with more than 3.3 million players joining in June (the month of the Steam launch) to boot. Making your game more available means more people want to play it! Astonishing. But good news for anyone and everyone who wants to sail relentlessly across the sea, alone or with others.
