It turns out that Final Fantasy XI will just keep going forever. The game has been pumping out monthly updates reliably ever since its supposed maintenance mode kicked off, of course, but now it’s getting new story content… and as a demonstration of scope, the new story has a subtitle and even a full special site devoted to the new story players will be exploring starting with the game’s August version update. It’s called Final Fantasy XI: The Voracious Resurgence, and it’s going to be a big one.
The teaser site currently has five little frames on it, with only the first one currently available to investigate, and it’s mostly laying the groundwork about mysterious eggs that are spoken of in ancient beastman legends. Black-clad beastmen like the ominous Gloom Phantom are stalking a Galka child, but what do they want? What’s happening? What new threat is creeping back into the land of Vana’diel? You’ll need to clear Rhapsodies of Vana’diel to start this up, but hey… new story content! That’s already awesome.
