The Daily Grind: Are you a fan of ice physics and mechanics in MMOs?

Ice ice baby.

RPS had a fun headline a while back that made me let out a laugh while I was strolling through my feeds: We must end the tyranny of sliding ice puzzles. Apparently, people really hate sliding physics mechanics! I’d never thought about this before. We’ve talked about winter events and snow zones and water maps, but not ice specifically.

And yet I’ve definitely seen ice-sliding used to good effect. Classic Guild Wars had several maps with the sliding, and it was so beloved in certain City of Heroes maps that the devs put it in an entire Ski Chalet map for the winter events that lets people slide down the hills for badges. There are surely far more that aren’t popping immediately to mind, and as I think about it, I mind ice much less than water.

How about you – are you with RPS or with the Ski Chalet fans? Are you a fan of ice maps and physics and mechanics in MMOs?
