Two hundred days and change. That’s how long World of Warcraft players will have been waiting for the first big post-Shadowlands update by the time Chains of Domination rolls out next week. Apparently, that’s a record for WoW’s post-expansion patches. Not the kind of record anyone should be happy to set, either.
Now, I am not going to sit here and tell you that non-stop patching is desirable. When a developer insists it’s going to roll out a meaty patch every other week, well, first, I don’t believe it because exactly zero MMO developers have ever stuck to a cadence like that, and second, there’s no way all those patches will be high-quality. Plus, I would rather have a bit of time to work through new content and not feel rushed.
Buuuuuut six months is way too long for a triple-A MMORPG to be asking people to wait around – especially when it’s charging a subscription.
How long do you want to wait between MMO patches?
