The Daily Grind: What’s your favorite biome type in MMOs?

A while back, Pantheon posted some slides for some of its in-production biome types that caught my attention. Obviously, the mockups are slick, and a tremendous amount of effort goes into the production of each zone in an MMO. But even so, there are some I like better than others.

For example, in Lord of the Rings Online, I’m usually a Shire and Bree fangirl, but when I got to South Ithilien, I literally popped on my experience-stopping trinket because the flowery wilderness of that area of Gondor was so lush and pretty that I knew I needed to do every quest instead of just pass through it on my way toward the ruins of Osgiliath. I’m also a huge sucker for massive sprawling cities that make me feel small, like Guild Wars 2’s New Kaineng. I’m less a fan of “desolate burning waste” types of zones.
