Cast your mind all the way back to 1998, unless you weren’t born yet, in which case you may play with your fidget spinner for the duration of this article. It was in 1998 that Dynamix launched Starsiege: Tribes, the first of a long-running series of sci-fi FPS shooters that married teamwork, jetpacks, and high-powered death.

While the series went dormant since 2012, it looks to be ready for a comeback in 2024. That’s when Tribes 3: Rivals is expected to come out with the latest iteration of futuristic capture-the-flag. It’s being developed by Prophecy Games, a former subsidiary of Hi-Rez Studios.

“Players ski, jetpack, battle, and race to capture the enemy team’s flag, all while ferociously defending their own,” Prophecy Games said. “Players can choose from unique classes to customize their abilities, perks, and weapon loadouts, while moving across epic terrains from snow covered peaks to haunting deserts. Teamwork, tactics, high speed, and intense combat reign supreme in this rebirth of the world’s fastest shooter.”

A large-scale playtest of Tribes 3 is happening this week. You can check out nearly eight minutes of gameplay footage below:
