During the much-touted Xbox podcast this afternoon, we learned not just that only four Xbox titles will be set free for other consoles but that Diablo IV is enroute to Game Pass, marking the first Activision game to do so post-merger.
“Blizzard is very excited to announce that Diablo IV will be coming to Xbox Game Pass on console and PC on March 28! With this addition, they’re delighted to bring the ultimate action RPG experience to even more adventurers. Experience a gripping campaign story first, or jump right into Season of the Construct to uncover a new threat lurking below the sands of Kehjistan. Whether players choose to embark on their journey solo or with friends, there is plenty to explore in the shared world of Sanctuary: endless evil to slaughter, countless abilities to master, nightmarish dungeons to conquer, and lots of legendary loot.”
Microsoft’s “Xbox Everywhere” marketing will see four games, including Sea of Thieves, expand to PS5 and Nintendo Switch, but not some of the other rumored AAA titles.
“I don’t want to create a false expectation on those other platforms that this is somehow the first four to get over the dam and then the dam’s going to open and that everything else is coming, that’s not the plan today,” Phil Spencer told The Verge. “I also don’t want to mislead customers on those other platforms. We’re launching these four games, and we’re excited about it.”
