Star Citizen is just chock-full of headlines as we head into the weekend, starting first with its latest Inside Star Citizen video, which once more focuses on alpha 3.23 and its updates to flight and combat. Specifically, the devs talk about the introduction of master modes but also focus on multiple new ship-to-ship combat matters such as gimbaling for turrets, updates to weapon fitting, and a new sub-system targeting feature. The devs note these features are being tuned for multi-crew and multiple ship engagements while acknowledging that 1v1 dogfights will still need work, but 3.23 is clearly bringing more to flight than just speed changes.

This weekend is also seeing a new event kick off from now until February 27th, where players are being challenged to capture an Idris capital ship. This event will bring players a first taste of seeing the ship’s interior, but it will also pit them against live developer crewmates who will fight to protect the massive battleship.

On the subject of events, CIG has confirmed initial details for this year’s CitizenCon, which is scheduled to run on October 19th and 20th in Manchester, UK. Last weekend also saw several devs discuss EVA and personal interaction updates for alpha 3.23, as they answered player questions about several mechanics for the systems. That video and another Noobifier breakdown all wait below.

Longtime MMORPG gamers will know that Star Citizen was originally Kickstarted for over $2M back in 2012 with a planned launch for 2014. As of 2024, it still lingers in an incomplete but playable alpha, having raised over $650M from gamers over years of continuing crowdfunding and sales of in-game ships and other assets. It is currently the highest-crowdfunded video game ever and has endured both indefatigable loyalty from advocates and immense skepticism from critics. A co-developed single-player title, Squadron 42, has also been repeatedly delayed.
