It’s been quite some time since we peered in on the development of Profane, the PvP sandbox MMO from Insane Studios. Readers might recall that the game has been in development since 2020, and while its Twitter feed has been filled with equal parts previews and memes, one of the more substantial pieces of news has come in the form of a development update video that released earlier this week.
Several devs go through a variety of topics drawn from its current alpha roadmap. Details include word of two regions being added to the test build, promises of further refinements to crafting., and a first pass at NPCs as well as the addition of an NPC faction job board players can use to improve a faction’s standing, the latter of which appears to be the thrust of Profane’s PvE content in the otherwise full-loot FFA PvP game.
There are also several design details related to the game’s combat, namely its skill system and proficiencies. There are currently 14 active skills and two passive skills in the alpha that players can discover in the world, all of which have to be assigned to an eight-slot hotbar (including the passives), while the proficiencies system provides some latent benefits (one might even call them passives) for completing specific objectives.
The end of the video promises that content updates to the alpha build are being worked on as quickly as possible and will be available soon, but neither the video nor the roadmap offer anything like a timeline for testing, simply saying that things are “almost ready.” The studio even posted a meme about its lack of timetables, so clearly it’s aware of the question but remains non-committal to an answer.
