Monster Hunter Wilds unveils new region and new monsters ahead of open beta October 31

This week saw Capcom debut another showcase video for the multiplayer RPG Monster Hunter Wilds, which not only highlighted a new area and three new creatures but also announced what many fans were likely waiting for: a date for an open beta test that will grant players their first hands-on time with the game (for those who didn’t attend gaming conventions, anyway).

The open beta will begin on Thursday, October 31st, and will run until Sunday, November 3rd, for Xbox X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam, though PlayStation Plus members will get two days of advance test access between October 28th and 30th.

This test will provide three pieces of the wider game: the full character creator that will transfer data over to the full release, a story trial that acts as the tutorial and a hunt against a Chatacabra, and a free-roaming Doshagama hunt. Both the story trial and the free-roam hunt will be open to multiplayer and crossplay, or players can hunt solo or call in the assistance of a full NPC hunting squad.

On top of the beta test details, the presentation also granted a look at the new Oilwell Basin zone, an area that’s filled with bubbling hot oil (as its name would suggest) and suffers from a conflagration event known as the Firespring. This region is home to a village of craftsmen called Azuz as well as three new beasts for players to be wary of: the toxic gas-spewing Rompopolo, the flaming fanged beast Ajarakan, and a formidable creature known only as the Black Flame. The latest cinematic trailer showcasing this region and the full 20-minute presentation await below.
