PlanetSide 2, fresh off an EU server merge, kicks off its 12th anniversary celebrations today

Somehow, the news that PlanetSide 2 is turning 12 years old this month strikes me as both way too high a number and way too low a number – probably owing to the fact that the PlanetSide franchise is much older than PS2 itself. Nevertheless, the Daybreak/Toadman devs are gearing up to celebrate with the 12th anniversary update, rolling out today around noon EST.

Now, before you get too excited, the main addition with this patch is a set of anniversary bundles, sold to players via the cash shop. The bundles, which cost 1999 to 7999 Daybreak Cash, include everything from titles and banners to cosmetics and weapons. The top two bundles also include heroic boosts for six and 12 months, respectively.

The rest of the update includes a bunch of bug fixes, improvements for NPC spawning, and a new squad menu tooltip. The team is also gearing up for Thanksgiving and Black Friday sales, though those won’t kick off until the holidays themselves. If you’re hoping to pick up cheap cosmetics or weapons, best hold off for those deals.

Readers will recall that just a week ago, the devs abruptly merged the game’s two European servers into one – something gamers had been begging for. There were apparently minor problems with lag after the merge, but players on Reddit are thrilled, arguing it brought life back to the game. Now we just wait for the studio to do the same thing with the other servers.
