We’ve been following the development Aloft for a little while now; it’s the upcoming co-op survival sandbox that involves exploring floating islands and transforming them into flying homes, all with a self-described safe-as-you-like vibe and a whole lot of Ghibli style radiating from it. The Funcom-published title was angling for early access this fall but had to delay that into January 2025, but now there’s a full calendar date: Wednesday, January 15th.
“Enjoy the zen of building and crafting, the satisfaction of cleansing the corruption from islands’ ecosystems, and the thrill of exploring serene and stormy skies, all while uncovering the mysterious past that has rendered the world as it is. As you travel, collect seeds to plant, animals to nurture, and ancient technology to progress.”
Aloft allows up to eight players to band together to explore, craft, and create individual skyships by placing things like sails, a helm, and rudders on preferred floating islands. The early access build promises multiple unique enemies, three different biomes, hundreds of building and decor items, and plenty of crops and animals to tend to. Early access is projected to take about a year.
The announcement came along with a new trailer, while a demo for the game can be downloaded from Steam.
