Monster Hunter fans are going to be eating pretty well in the month of February, as the mobile ARG title Monster Hunter Now prepares for the second half of its winter content update and Monster Hunter Wilds is getting ready to run back the open beta it held last October.
Saturday, February 1st, is when Now will launch the second half of Roars from the Winterwind update, which introduces the monster Kirin, along with new weapons and armor to match. Before then, players can look forward to a Lunar New Year event starting January 27th that awards weapons that dish out more damage against higher-ranked monsters, and a pay-to-play winter hunt event on February 1st that unlocks unique missions related to hunting Kirin; “tickets” for accessing this event will be on sale January 14th.
As for Wilds, the open beta test is coming back for two weekends in February starting on February 6th and February 12th, for PC and console players. This test effectively lets players who missed last year’s OBT enjoy the game, meaning that earlier discussed improvements to weapons and performance will not be available.
As for test content, everything from the first test will be available along with the addition of Gypceros, a tail-whipping bird wyvern that appeared in the very first game, and the promise of “other new content” that will be revealed later. Test participants will also get to retain their created character appearance when Wilds releases and receive a decoration and item bundle for participating. This OBT also allows for cross-platform play, so everyone who missed out (or just missed the game) can hunt together.
