Who doesn’t like paying more for things? Wait. Sorry. The answer to that is “everyone,” and so you can imagine that residents of Australia and New Zealand are not exactly thrilled about upcoming changes to how much it’ll cost to play World of Warcraft. The game’s one-month subscription price will rise to $23.95 in AUD and $26.99 in NZD as of February 7th, 2025. As a small grace, existing subscriptions at the time of the change will retain the legacy pricing until August 6th.
For those who don’t feel like looking it up, at the time of this writing, $23.95 AUD is the equivalent of $14.88 USD, and $26.99 NZD is $15.13 USD. That sounds reasonable enough… but as the posters who are more than a little miffed in a Reddit thread on the subject point out, Blizzard does not have a history of cutting the price when the currency gets stronger relative to the US dollar. It’s also ignoring the fact that cost of living and overall compensation is different in Australia compared to the US, so the fact that the price isn’t changing that much on a global level doesn’t help the fact that, well, residents of these countries need to pay more for the same game. And as we mentioned, nobody likes that.
