Ashes of Creation has had an interesting first seven weeks of early access, with a launch peppered with DDOS attacks, hack and dupe waves, RMT concerns, layoffs, and over 200,000 new players. Now the team has released a director’s letter from Intrepid, addressing the state of the game.
“We know that some of you are frustrated right now,” the studio writes. “We feel that. You’ve been candid about the issues impacting your experience, and you deserve clarity and honesty in return.” Specifically, players have been most upset about RMT and cheaters, unfinished PvP systems, risk-vs.-reward gameplay, bugs, and performance. Work on all of these things, he says, is “underway.”
“Game development, especially at this scale, is rarely linear. Systems evolve. Assumptions are challenged. Foundations must sometimes be reworked, so what comes next can stand strong. That process can be uncomfortable, particularly in an open development environment where you see the seams as they’re stitched. But it is also what allows us to build something ambitious, durable, and worthy of your investment.”
Intrepid concludes by postponing the next dev stream to February 13th, during which the devs promise to “walk through [their] Q1 plans and outline the next steps for Ashes of Creation – what [they’re] prioritizing, why those choices matter, and how they connect to the issues you’re experiencing today.”
