Lately there’s been a whole lot of speculation surrounding Diablo, with rumors flying left and right about what may be in store for the future of Blizzard’s venerable demon-killing franchise. Some popular theories have included a Diablo MMORPG, a remake of the classic Diablo and/or Diablo II, and — according to a hastily deleted tweet from September — even a Diablo animated series. Blizzard, for its part, has remained tight-lipped on the subject, confirming only that it has “multiple Diablo projects in the works” and promising more details at BlizzCon.
So now, with Blizzcon just around the corner, players are hopeful that they’ll finally get some concrete news about the future of Diablo. In light of that, Blizzard has posted an announcement to the official site to announce that it’s… announcing something later. Yes, an announcement announcement.
What is that something? Well, maybe don’t get your hopes too much up. The post does say that “November 2 will be an especially diabolical date,” as it’s the first day of BlizzCon as well as the launch day for Diablo III on the Nintendo Switch. But it certainly doesn’t bode well for a far bigger reveal and doesn’t sound like it’ll be the announcement of an MMO or new entry in the Diablo franchise.
“While we won’t be ready to announce all of our projects,” the post says, “we do intend to share some Diablo-related news with you at the show.” So maintain that holding pattern, Diablo fans, and keep your fingers crossed for something juicy when BlizzCon kicks off in November.
