WoW Classic opens more servers for transfer, addressing layer switching

Blizzard is continuing to open up opening up character transfers for WoW Classic to allow folks who rolled on overloaded shards to get the heck off. Following an initial round, the remaining servers on the list are now open for moves:

Once again, Blizzard notes that you’ll need to clean out your mail, auctions, and guild leader status before getting on the transfer train, and new realms are for transfer folks only for a day or so before they’ll open up to everyone else too.

Meanwhile, earlier this week we covered WoW Classic’s first level 60 character, whose player accomplished that feat by kinda abusing the heck out of the game’s layering system, which essentially allowed him to flip around between zone layers to keep his grind stream coming. The community seemed torn on whether that constituted fair play, and while Blizzard doesn’t seem to be calling it cheating, it does now have plans to tweak layering to make it a bit harder to exploit.

“We’ve been monitoring players’ use of layers, and we agree that we should add a delay between subsequent layer transfers,” the studio wrote last night. “Under the hood we have all the controls I talked about in the Reddit AMA before launch, a few secret weapons we haven’t discussed publicly, and we’re working on deploying some additional controls to further restrain layering from being exploitable.”

Blizzard also says it’s investigated the impact layering has on the economy and has determined that many of the posted stories and screenshots are inaccurate or false: “Rest assured that there are not people running around with banks full of (Thorium) Arcane Crystals or Black Lotus.”
