One of my most prized possessions in life is a WildStar rowsdower plushie that sits behind me at work, always giving me the eye. I got it at a convention and know that it’s slightly rare, as Carbine has yet to take the obvious route of mass producing and selling these critters to be the toy smash hit of holiday 2015.
In fact, the studio and its publisher hasn’t done much to merch out WildStar (not even a soundtrack release, alas), which makes buying a special game-themed gift for yourself or a loved one extra difficult. However, I came up with a few possibilities that you can check out in today’s gift guide!
1. Digital goodies
In this post-F2P transition era for WildStar, the beginning, middle, and end of Carbine’s sales tactics are to wring money out of players for digital goodies. You can spend money on the official store to buy a month of subscription privileges, Ncoins for the microtransaction store, or CREDD to sell to other players for in-game platinum.
2. Mouse pad
I don’t think I ever notice what piece of padded fabric my mouse skims over on a daily basis, but I’m sure that if I had this pad, I would be so in awe of its bright colors as to be fearful of marring it with my crude mouse strokes.
Actually, my current mouse pad advertises for an antibiotic drug, so I’m sure that a WildStar pad would be a good step up. This Exile mouse pad is even neater.
3. A wall clock with a troubling disclaimer
I guess someone figured out that you could take MMO art assets and slap them on any old thing, such as clocks, and rake in millions. So here you go, a WildStar clock that’s definitely on the up-and-up and won’t disappear the second Carbine’s lawyers get wind of it.
An actual disclaimer from the page: “Notice: Most of those Images Download from the Website then change the size and the length and width ratio, and both give freeware use of their images but if by mistake we took someones Copyright work, please contact me to arrange for Credits for the Images or its removal. We hope you will enjoy them as much as we did doing them for the Love of Sharing.”
The love of sharing, people! And the love of making money off of someone else’s work too, but mostly the sharing!
4. Rune Fragment Pendant
This Etsy project caught my eye as something that would be genuinely cool to give to a WildStar player. It’s different and yet identifiable for those who’ve played the game, and it has a hand-crafted authenticity to it. The creator also makes her own fluffie rowsdower dolls that are second only to the real thing.
5. WildStar by Nicole Jordan
The official novelization of WildStar is a little puzzling, mostly because the author decided to substitute the outer space setting for a tale of romance amid a bandit chase in the Old West. Maybe they come across rowsdowers and Freebots?
According to one reviewer, the book felt true to life: “I found myself cringing a little at some of Garrett’s roughness, but then I realized that it really reflects real emotion and real life. I want that in a book, to be swept away to another time and place and forget our own troubles for just a few brief moments.”
