Kickstarted survival sandbox Fractured Veil is sunsetting this week, having never left early access

I’m sorry to report today that survivalbox Fractured Veil is throwing in the towel. “Today we’ve made the tough decision to stop development on Fracture[d] Veil,” the Paddle Creek Games devs wrote on Twitter this morning. “A big Mahalo to everyone who helped and supported us through the years. We will leave the discord active for a few months. The Steam Page will no longer be available starting Oct. 8th.”

We’ve been covering Fractured Veil since 2021, when Paddle Creek was hunting for playtesters for the Hawaii-themed sandbox; its Kickstarter later that year pulled in over $110,000.

“This isn’t a cash grab,” the studio told fans back in 2021. “[W]e are and will be in this for the long haul to build one of the best survival games the community has ever seen.”

But Paddle Creek delayed its planned 2022 early access multiple times, and it finally made it out the door in early 2024 – but it’s never seen more than 129 players concurrent on Steam. In fact, it hasn’t seen more than 10 concurrent players on Steam since March, and the reviews are deep in negative territory owing to complaints about the game’s unfinished nature, which is presumably why the devs have now given up. Our condolences to the remaining players and Kickstarter backers who won’t be getting what they pledged for.
