New World details new artifacts and last-minute PvP tweaks ahead of Aeternum

As we wait for the New World downtime tonight, Amazon has posted another dev blog detailing some of the changes players can expect when Aeternum and Season of Opportunity are live tomorrowday.

Several of the adjustments involve PvP: The studio will ensure that you’ll no longer swap targets when you kill someone in target lock, that target lock will break “more aggressively” when you lose line of sight to the target, that turn speed will be slower when you’re using target lock, and that the blunderbuss won’t be super overpowered in PvP, at least temporarily. Plus, matchmaking should work better:

“Finding matches in 3v3 Arenas will now be much easier thanks to cross-world matchmaking. We’ve also introduced skill-based matchmaking to both Arenas and Outpost Rush. Look forward to higher quality matches against other players of similar skill. Finally, we’ve added role selection to these modes. Similar to Expeditions, we will now split roles better between teams for a more balanced experience.”

As for endgame PvP players, Amazon is talking up the MMORPG’s first 10-person raid, Hive of the Gorgons, and outlining the eight new artifacts it’s added. We spy a new warhammer, greatsword, and flail in that list!
