Blade and Soul crushes summer boredom with its Celestial Dawn patch

Aww, don’t be sad, weird little old man with long pierced bunny rabbit ears! I know you’re feeling left without purpose, now that you’re in the summer months, but may we suggest a little Blade and Soul to inject a spark of direction in your life?

After so much build up you’d think this patch is an expansion, Blade and Soul’s Celestial Dawn arrived yesterday and gave the MMO’s players a whole lot to do for the next month or so. You’ve got a fight against the Grand Celestial Emporer with the final addition to the Nightfall Sanctuary raid, the start of two bonus events, the new augment feature, and plenty of system changes. You’re going to want to read up on the patch notes for this, seriously.

Before NCsoft lets go of its excitement for this patch, it had to indulge in a couple of videos to trumpet how awesome it is. “It” being the studio or the update, take your pick.

Blade & Soul offers the notes for the Celestial Dawn patch on June 20

It’s almost the dawning of the age of… celestiality? You know, there’s probably a reason why Blade & Soul didn’t make that joke for its Celestial Dawn patch, which arrives on June 20th. Seriously, you can check out the patch notes on the official site, or you can look at a preview and a trailer for the patch just below. They’re all there, and they should provide you all of the background you need on the patch.

If you’d rather just read it right now, though, you can look forward to a new Heroic solo dungeon, the final part of the 12-player Nightfall Sanctuary raid, and a new Grand Celestial evolution for your favorite weapon. That’s in addition to the usual quality of life bumps that come with every patch including new items to purchase from Lee Youjin and a new buff for normal dungeons. Dedicated players will want to read through the patch notes just the same. There’s lots of information.

Blade & Soul shows off enhancing your gear with its new Augment system

Legendary accessories in Blade & Soul are the sort of things that you know you can wear for a very long time without replacing. That’s good, but it also means that you’ve hit a dead end in terms of chasing new stats. So the new Augment system will help change that by giving you more stats to chase! Sure, your ring already has great stats, but it could be enhancing your damage against bosses. Doesn’t that sound even better?

Each of the given accessory slots has three different sorts of Augment that can be applied; one adds boss damage and critical chance, one adds critical chance and critical damage, and the last adds HP and PvP defense. Each sort has a maximum amount that it can add to an accessory, but each augment application is randomized; you could wind up with the best values right away or roll them multiple times without much luck. Check out the full rundown for numbers before you get ready to make your best accessories even better after all.

One Shots: Fashion patrol coming your way!

Well that is certainly one way to fill up the comments section with tons of screenshots: asking all of you to show of your best and boldest fashion! We had a virtual fashion show last week in the One Shots comments, and here are my personal favorites of the bunch (although most all were tremendous).

First up is UpayaBlossom, who brings some springtime cheer into the dour setting of Secret World Legends. “Oooh… fashion show? I was born ready for this!” she wrote.

Here’s a weird thought. What if all of the enemies in video games were adorable people and we played as the hideous monsters? What kind of fashion would we sport then?

Blade and Soul throws the kitchen sink into next week’s patch

You know it’s a really good and meaty content patch when a studio can get more than two blog posts out of it. Blade and Soul’s Celestial Dawn fits that bill, because NCsoft is still talking about next week’s update, this time with a post on the big changes coming to various items and systems.

The Celestial Dawn update is goign to give players even more rewards from Nightfall Sanctuary’s hard difficulty bosses and improved the payouts from Celestial Basin activities. The crafting system got a balance and price pass and Zen Bean traders will be stocked with a “greater variety” of goods.

To help players tackle the bigger challenges of this patch, the legendary accessory augment system was born: “The new legendary accessory augment system allows you to tackle specific hard mode dungeons for a chance at Psyche items, which will allow you to further increase your legendary accessory power. Each dungeon has their own unique psyche related to the augment system, in addition to the battlefield traders having their own PvP-focused versions.”

Blade and Soul preps two bonus events for its Celestial Dawn release

Seriously, what could be better than a juicy content drop for your favorite fantasy MMORPG? Well, how about a pair of events that tie into the patch and give you an extra boost to get caught up?

For the June 20th release of Celestial Dawn, Blade and Soul is planning a pair of events to maximize interest and excitement over this patch. First up is the Weaponsmith’s Forge, which runs from June 20th through July 25th. During this period, players will be able to upgrade their weapons for a discounted cost, get more upgrade materials, and snag a daily gildstone to exchange for pretty awesome cosmetics and weapons.

Also running during that same window is the Raid Crusade event. This throws down a weekly challenge to complete raids and hard mode dungeons in exchange for bonus rewards.

Blade and Soul rounds out its Nightfall Sanctuary raid

What MMORPG actually releases a fully-fleshed out raid in this day and age? You have to milk that content drip by drip, giving players just enough to be challenging but not enough so that the top raiding guilds blow through it in one evening.

Blade and Soul seems perfectly fine with the current model of chopping up raids, as it only delivered half of the Nightfall Sanctuary so far. The rest is coming on June 20th, when part two arrives with even more bosses, areas, and rewards for 12-player groups to tackle. It’s in this update that the final showdown against the Grand Celestial Emperor is going to take place, with appropriate legendary gear dropping for anyone who can dethrone this shiny jerk.

“Your raid will need to work in perfect harmony if you’re to have any chance against the Grand Celestial Emperor. More than a few will fall before him and his relentless pursuit of power,” said NCsoft.

One Shots: The crane… the crane…

I love crane machines. Yes, I know they’re a total scam, but I won something in one once, and I can’t help but throwing money at them in the vain home of repeating that epic moment. Of course, I might forswear crane machines altogether if I got one of FFXIV’s creepier races as a prize.

Vincent has no such compunctions: “Only a Lalafell would look this happy being carried around by a Death Claw!”

It’s how all of us at Massively OP get to work every day, actually.

Blade & Soul pits players against the Grand Celestial Emperor in June 20th’s Celestial Dawn update

Blade & Soul is just refusing to slow down its wild content rollout, and it’ll continue down that path this June with Celestial Dawn. Due out on June 20th, the update is framed as a battle against the Grand Celestial Emperor himself. Man, why didn’t you kill that guy the last time?!

“The Grand Celestial Emperor has returned! Though you have failed in your quest to stop Chol Mugo from possessing the Emperor’s power, you have one last chance at redemption. Stand against this resurrected tyrant in the final chapter of the Chol Mugo saga.”

NCsoft’s splash page teases a 12-man raid to take on the “Scorptamaton” as well as the Emperor, in addition to a new solo dungeon in which you “face down your own Greed, Rage, Fears, and Goals as they manifest in the form of adversaries and allies from your past.” New legendary weapons and legendary accessory enhancements are also on the docket. Trailer inc!

One Shots: The cream of the shuttercrop

What do you get when you ask MMO players with bulging folders of screenshots to pick their very, very best to show off? An absolutely amazing array of visual delights, that’s what.

Zyrusticae kicks off our look at the MOP community’s best-of-the-best screenshots with this view of what I think is Blade and Soul: “Just one? Really? Just the one? Boy, you really know what to say to induce absolute decision-making paralysis in me, don’t you? Well, after much deliberation, I just realized that it had to be this one. There is no other shot that gets my attention as much as this one does. The absurdly saturated, bright blue color palette in contrast with the autumn colors… yes, it does my heart good.”

One Shots: A sense of place

Why do you play MMORPGs? What keeps you questing through these ever-growing worlds? I think a lot of us might answer like Zyrusticae in Blade and Soul here, as we enjoy inhabiting and exploring virtual fantasy worlds.

“See, this is the sort of thing I play MMORPGs for,” Zyrusticae writes. “That sense of ‘place.’ Being somewhere else, even if it’s only behind a computer screen. Old shots, yes, but still some of my favorites just for that. It’s a very pleasant feeling, really.”

Will you find your sense of place in the following player screenshots? Let’s find out!

Blade and Soul promises a new class, engine upgrade, and new raids

Feeling like your Blade and Soul character has hit a plateau in his or her development? Then it’s probably time to graduate to the next level, thanks to an upcoming job extension feature that will transform your class into an evolved version. Yes, that old favorite from JRPGs is heading into the game so that your character can graduate to an advanced level.

MMO Culture shared one example of these evolutions, stating that Warlocks will be able to grow up into Distortionists. Next up on the table for Blade and Soul? Other than an upgrade to a new graphics engine, players have been looking forward to the next classes to hit the scene. We may know of at least one of these, thanks to a vision preview. The class in question is the Tusan, a fast fighter than can berserk up close or deal out ranged damage.
