Final Fantasy XIV previews its anniversary event

AND THE ROCKET'S RED GLARE, ETC

It’s been just about two years since Final Fantasy XIV relaunched and surprised more or less everyone by being an enormous success story. Not a word had been said about anniversary rewards until now, prompting some writers (ahem) to wonder whether one was even going to happen, but there will indeed be an event kicking off on August 27th to celebrate two years of operation.

This year’s rewards include miniature versions of Lady Iceheart and Yugiri, both of whom are important figures through the story of Heavensward. There’s also a new style of firework available. Check out the details on the official site, but be sure to jump in relatively quickly; the event is running only until September 7th.

AGx A Dad Supreme RooWoods Titan Extreme is difficult, but is completely optional content (and I’ve cleared it :D)  It’s not hard, it just requires players to pay attentions.  Leviathan Extreme is much harder, but again, entirely possible to clear with a bit of practice (and also not mandatory to advance the story).  Hard content should exist for players who enjoy hard content, it’s the sign of a good game.  And no one can say they do not provide a tonne of content at all difficulty levels.  (Well, they could say it, but they would be lying).

It’s really down to can you play a game with a 2.5 second global cooldown.  I feel that’s the greatest barrier of entry, but also why so many others like it.

Noble_Einherjar “then stopped when I realized I was just going through the exact same
grind I was doing before the expansion released. I miss my friends, but I
just don’t have it in me to keep doing the same thing each day.”
You just described every MMO out there =P

Tizmah1 Noble_Einherjar AtlasRyker honestly if you don’t think the sub is worth it for ffxiv, i don’t see what game you would think is deserving of a monthly sub

AGx Noble_Einherjar AtlasRyker I miss FFXI so much, but it’s hard to bring myself to return, even with things like the Return to Vana’diel campaign. There are a lot of things modern MMOs could learn from FFXI.
I’m not 100% on board the “themepark vs sandbox” debate, but if FFXI is a themepark, at least it lets you choose what rides you want to go on, instead of the game funneling you through a guided tour.

AGx A Dad Supreme RooWoods ” It’s a chore that needs completing for a reward and the lack of “10 gazillion possible skill combinations” is probably one of the least fun aspects of the game.”
==================
Agree, we disagree. :0

After playing so many games that tout “10 gazillion combos” of skill sets like Rift, ESO, etc, an experienced MMOer quickly finds out that even though mathematically there are that many, the games they are presented in only support two or three for each class barely.
What happens is one build dominates, another is pretty good, and the last is so-so. People aren’t really limited to their imagination as Devs would have them believe; they are limited within synergies, cooldowns and game animations.
So what you believe is ‘choice’, really isn’t that much more of a choice than a game like FFXIV that gives you ‘stock’ classes mostly and focuses on everything else (great dungeons, animations, graphics, etc).
Just a trade off but I choose to not pretend there is some unlimited amount of builds running around effectively in a game to do PvE or PvP, when there isn’t.

Noble_Einherjar AtlasRyker I was so bummed when I reached the end of Heavensward and the same grind that was relieved for a while was right back. People say the $14.99 is worth it because of the amount of content they put out.  I disagree.  When most of my month is spent spamming that same repetitious “new” content that’s mostly just a reskin, I don’t see $14.99 being worth it.

Noble_Einherjar I’ve never been onboard for doing any holiday events in any MMO.  I actually roll my eyes when I see them, lol.
