Connection issues plague Cryptic titles through the weekend

Hey there, you don't get to see me.

For many of us, the weekend is the ideal time for gaming – there are no real responsibilities, you don’t have to pretend to be sick to avoid work, and all of our friends are online. Players hoping to get in a weekend of play in Cryptic Studios games over the weekend, however, were met with severe network lag, login troubles, and a host of other connection issues, which had the teams behind the games working furiously to correct the problem.

The last update on the situation as of this writing came yesterday evening, with community moderator Zebular informing players that the issues appear to be with Cryptic’s ISP rather than with any of the company’s hardware. No discussion has yet been started about potential compensation. It’s an unpleasant reality of dealing with online games, and we can only hope that these issues will be swiftly resolved today.

Nobody could have foreseen the impact Champions Online news had on Cryptic’s servers…

Darthbawl It had me wondering about the quality of the game, but a quick bit of googling led me to the network issues they were having.  I’m not so quick to judge a game and intend to give it a fair look once they (or their ISP) resolve the issues.  If it was a bigger issue like a rollback or a hack i would react in much the same way, wait till problem is resolved and resume playing.

I do feel like playing some solitaire now though :D

Iordani No offense, but if something like that even remotely had you thinking of uninstalling, you might want to go find a deck of cards and go play solitaire. :D  I can’t imagine how you’d react if there was something like a rollback or hack.

I picked a great weekend to try Star Trek Online didnt I…  Nothing like getting disconnected ever 2 minutes to make you want to uninstall.

Cryptic having recurring technical difficulties?  That’s hardly news.  It’s just another of the many reasons I deleted all of their games from my computer.

A lot more than five had to deal with this, judging by the forum threads in tech support. :)
At any rate this is not a new problem. In my own experience (this is with STO) the weekdays are for the most part problem-free and Saturday and Sunday are when I have the most problems. Saturday I gave up until 10pm and was able to get in game normally. Yesterday the same connection problem was back. I did manage to make it to the char select screen once. It took just over three minutes for the launcher to get to the point where I could click the Engage button. After the program itself was booted up it was another four before selections appeared on the char select screen. Then bam. Disconnected from server.
I’m sure that Rift and ESO don’t mind as I’m spending more time back in them as a result and spending money in their cash shops.

My sympathies go out to the 5 or so people who had to deal with this.
