Is The Division getting endgame raids?

Which is good, because we have to justify that Xbox One purchase somehow.

Is The Division getting endgame raids? That’s the Reddit rumor the fans at Arekkz Gaming speculated on over the weekend. According to the rumor (since deleted from Reddit), Ubisoft developers supposedly claim that an endgame eight-man raid on Riker Island with two difficulty modes and story gates will go live two weeks after launch so that folks can gear and team up. Arekkz finds the rumor pretty plausible; the key points against the idea, Arekkz argues, are that Riker Island as the location seems unlikely and that little in the rumor couldn’t have been dreamed up by someone familiar with how online raids work.

Adding fuel to the fire is a new piece from The Guardian out today, in which Ubisoft’s Julian Gerighty hedged questions about what locations might go into the game besides Manhattan, like Ellis Island or The Bronx. “This is what we wanted to focus on – there may be some surprises,” he says.

Decide for yourself; the video’s below.

Sorenthaz deekay_zero Siphaed it ends up feeling like semantics either way.

i’ve argued in the past that division raids aren’t real raid. but i got rightfully shut down. it’s a damn good argument.

SomeNerdGuy deekay_zero Massively covering something has nothing to do with the game or its developers really. They also cover mobas, which are in no way an MMO.
I was going to say they cover anything multiplayer that’s just short of a lobby shooter.. but they also cover Overwatch. So yeah.

SomeNerdGuy deekay_zero massively is covering it because their readerbase has demanded it.

the developers have been absolutely crystal clear it’s not an mmo.

massively covers plenty of games that aren’t even remotely mmo’s aside from this one.

deekay_zero Siphaed I like how FFXIV simply calls them “Full Party” dungeons or w/e.  ’cause you queue up for them in the same list as you do the 4man (“Light Party”) dungeons and then there are 24-man raids.

A Dad Supreme it’s probably because the game once loaded is almost completely seemless and rikers island would violate that to some degree.

i can see the argument he’s making based on the marketting and gameplay demonstrated. tho i wouldn’t rule it out either.

Why would Riker’s Island be unplausible? It’s a maximum security prison right now.
Just about every post-Apoc themed show/movie/book has large contingents (either good or bad) holed up on some prison or island structure for obvious reasons.
Even The Book of Eli used Alcatraz as the perfect bunker situation.
