I remember the excitement of the first land rush, which was entirely about grabbing a mountain peak lol. Before oceans were introduced. I built my wee little villa and had SO much fun doing it. the digging, the placing of things, the decoration, the making of rails and stairs down the incline, dealing with the evil smoothing tool. Such magic. Across the mountainside another guy was building an impressive and ambitious gothic stone castle. We were all noobs but there was already some really interesting, creative work being done. All the little things that were possible that you could invent on your own, like placing torches in your chimney so that it would really smoke, etc…
I get a little tear in my eye thinking about what almost was. Landmark as the world, and EverQuest as the lore and filler material, was, in Dave Georgeson’s own words, truly, “The Game You’ve Never Played Before.”
Or, sadly, ever will.

This was the thing I built in Landmark. Not as artistic as many, if not most, but a great accomplishment for me.

the only words that come to mind are,

“That’s a low-down dirty shame.”
