The big almighty reset button is coming to the Destiny franchise with its sequel, and in a new gameplay video, the devs show off snippets of the title while setting the scene for the story to come. A new villain, Dominus Gal, arrives in the solar system with his Red Legion, looking to take the Light away from Guardians. Players begin the game stumbling, shorn of their abilities, and without a friendly base to protect them.
Reclaiming your powers and taking back the City is the overarching goal of Destiny 2. “It’s a fresh start for all players,” promised the team.
Check it out after the break!

c’mon Borderlands 3…
” A new villain, Dominus Gal,…”
=======
Wonder if this one is as strong as “Dominant Gal”.
Looking at the supers I could not help think Magik! Captain America! Gambit!
Thing is, I’m exclusively a PC player. Will I know what’s going on with the story if I jump into Destiny 2, knowing zip about Destiny? Story is ultra-important to me when I play a game.
Same here for me. I guess we will since they are doing ‘reset’.
Watch the story from 1 on youtube?

This are narrated though, I guess there are some cut scene collections out there.
The story, as it was done in-game, is so poor you aren’t missing anything. If you really want to know the story, you’ll have to go to one of the many websites that consolidated the scatterbrained grimoire cards into something human readable. There is nothing about the story you gain by playing the game. A character tells you at one point, “I don’t have time to explain why I don’t have time to explain.” To which they should have added, “Here, have this pack of cards that explain things. It will be good reading while on the bus.”
Edit: http://www.ishtar-collective.net is the best site that I am aware of.
Thanks, I check this stuff out.
During the past two expansions, they gave you a fair amount of story. I would just watch the videos and read the other online information. Watch vids of the quests, dungeons and raids. The people that gave up on the game didn’t see the streamlining process.
I too had this issue. Like it’s been posted the YouTube clips with the cut-scenes cover the basic story and you get the idea what the different factions are. Watched it over the weekend. Plus there are only 3 classes. Rogue/Mage/Tank so I think I’m good to go. Plus I now know what a Cayde-6 is…
Ok. Well, I hate say it because I know might get burned, I’m in.
Yup. If Bungee did indeed learn their lesson, I will be playing Destiny 2. I’ll still wait until the launch of the PC version, and maybe a few weeks after that as well to see what shakes out. But, a shooter with great story and rpg elements? Yes, please.
pew pew
Nicely done, sir.
3 classes
thats all im sayin
And this is an MMO? I thought it was just an FPS with some multiplayer. Suprised Massively is covering this?
It’s a diet MMO – shared central hubs but the “world” is instanced and played by small parties only. More akin to Vindictus and some other psuedo-MMO’s that get covered here.
Also, it is multiplayer only and Massively covers a number of non-MMO’s from time to time. There’s a ton of interest in it from readers (despite comment gripes), so don’t expect it to go anywhere unless folks stop clicking on the news posts.
Most everything concerning Destiny is a MMO, they just don’t want the label.
Raids, dungeons, instanced PvP, world events, story missions, dailies, world missions, weeklies, exploration, gear progression, inventory space, light crafting and levels.
They are also covering CCG/TCG’s, hero shooters, ARPG’s, MOBA’s and dead games. Welcome.
I’m not complaining – was just curious. From what I can see the world and it’s wife wants to play Destiny 2.
from the book “101 ways to narrate progress resets in reboots sequels and expansion packs”
“…without really trying.”
