Today’s SWTOR Update 5.8 brings Izax boss, conquest revamp, and returning companions

Hope you brought your industrial-sized ion cannon, fly boy, because that is one mother of a droid that’s trying to stomp on your face. Izax, the final boss of the God of the Machine operation, goes live today with Star Wars: The Old Republic Game Update 5.8.

Izax and its limited-time event is merely a part of today’s content update. BioWare has revamped the conquest system – which we’ve already deep-dived in Hyperspace Beacon – to include a new interface and additional rewards for guilds. Three companions also return for some story content: the Sith Inquisitor’s Ashara, the Imperial Agent’s Vector, and everyone’s hunky Arcann.

For those who play the Galactic Trade Network, it should be noted that BioWare has increased the tax rate from 6% to 8% to “combat credit inflation.”

Get caught up on what’s in the update!

Well now we know why they refused to discuss the details on the Conquest revamp during the livestream. Guess moving to flexible hosting was prescient so that they don’t need pay for the excess capacity following the next wave of unsubs.

So the EA writing team have set it so that anyone that spares Arcann becomes utterly corrupt, where rather than have an option where he answers to his victims (or their families or the galaxy) for what he had done, as long as he gives you a gift (and possible kiss) his exonerated of everything. You can’t even refuse the bribe.

This just comes of as poor fanfiction fan service. Though I can’t imagine what the appeal is for him to have fans. Is it the cartoonish, scared look of the guy. Or maybe his personality flipping between impotent daddy rage, to bullying his own troops who can’t fight back. So making a scared impotent bully a love interest, was worth finalizing that part of the story as a farcical everyone lives happily ever after nonsense.

For a game that brought the fourth pillar of story to MMO’s it seems they now want to be done with story and make it so bad people would prefer they end it and just offer kill 10 rat quests from a terminal.

That sounds abysmally bad even for SWTOR these days. Crying shame really.

Abysmally bad is about right. The first half of KotFE was actually good… everything after has been compared to some of the worst fan-fic ever written. What-evs. I knew that the spirit of Bioware had died when the writers got all huffy over the negative reaction to the Mass Effect 3 endings. That was supposed to be their A-team.

I’ve played through KotET exactly once. Never again. What they did there was inexcusable.

maybe they’re just trying to emulate the FFXIV Hildibrand quest series? ;)
