Headstart begins today for Defiance 2050

Here we go now.

The time has come for Defiance 2050 to enter the wild… in a limited sense. Head start access begins today, although the general “anyone can jump in” of the full launch won’t kick off until July 10th. But if you’re a founder, you can start playing this updated rebuild of the game right now on your platform of choice.

To go along with this particular event, players who are only passingly familiar with the title might want to take a gander at the rundown of the classes available on the PlayStation Blog, which covers all of the various ways you can shoot things in the game. (It’s a game about shooting things, you knew each class was going to have a focus on shooting.) The title is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and of course the PC.

Broken servers on PS4 all day no one has gotten on, but we were definitely charged.

Knowing Trion get ready for 3-5 days of not being able to play and getting some crap “compensation” package that will make you laugh as you chargeback.

Logged into one of the beta and I had to log out and make sure I didn’t hit play on the normal Defiance. Clearly just some botox treatment hoping to grab a few bucks. Was a good company once. Sad to see them resort to this.

I played the original some years back and rather liked it. Jumped into a free Beta weekend for the 2050 version a few weeks ago and my impression from an hour of play is that they haven’t changed a thing beyond introducing a class system that makes skill progression much more linear and restricted? Given that and how dated it now looks and feels, I won’t be going back.

Same here. While I never got pulled in by the original I had some fun times, but when I played the beta I had a hard time seeing any meaningful improvements. Maybe if I’d play it more I would have, but it hasn’t aged well, even with whatever enhancements they’ve made.

Not sure how to feel. On one hand Defiance was a pretty fun game once it had its issues ironed out. On the other hand, it seems like they’re going the SWL route but not in a good way. I.e. they’re trying to essentially resell a game that people already spent money on, and are trying to charge money for stuff that used to be previously available/obtainable without spending anything.

That last bit really rubs me the wrong way and it’s the same issue I had with RIFT’s Prime server where they expected me to pay up 2500 Gems just to get access to my old Collector’s Edition two-headed tortoise mount, among others that I earned through gameplay or buying them back in 2012/2013 when I was active. It’s obvious that they wouldn’t be doing this stuff if they don’t think they could get more money out of people, but the way in which they’re doing it, by selling things that people already own in the original version, just feels sleazy and overly money-grubby to me.

So maybe I’ll check it out later but for now I’m highly hesitant to bother supporting it as so far there hasn’t been anything new added to the game and I already saw them trying to resell an ATV you used to be able to get for simply progressing far enough in the storyline.

Im actually semi-excited for this. I liked Defiance when it launched years ago, gonna try redux version even if its minor facelift.

I love shooting bugs…. I would like it even more if I had a jetpack ala Firefall. Anyone know of a mmo Firefall substitute? Need jetpacks, open world, and FPS mechanics. :)

I miss Firefall. Well, at least a few of the dozens of versions of it we were handed over the years.
