World of Warcraft announces Tides of Vengeance with new content and account-wide rep tweaks

If you’re enjoying World of Warcraft Battle for Azeroth, you’re probably OK with more of the same, as long as it’s shiny and new. And that’s just what you’re getting. As revealed in the Blizzard Twitch stream this afternoon, World of Warcraft is due for a big patch dubbed Tides of Vengeance. Blizzard’s Ion Hazzikostas laid it out as a continuation of the war campaign, with new world quests, new faction incursions (akin to Legion invasions), and character storylines zooming in on the current faves (Tyrande and Saurfang, etc.).

There’s also a new Warfront (Battle for Darkshore), new heritage armor (Dwarves and Belfs are apparently up first, but everyone is getting it eventually, not just allied races), new island expeditions (Jorundall and Havenwood), the new Gnomeregan pet battle dungeon, class balancing, new azerite traits, and some truly excellent account-wide unlocks, including the Champions of Azeroth rep grind.

Raiders will want to keep an eye on the two raids on the way: Siege of Zuldazar, which will apparently play differently depending on which faction you’re playing in, and the much smaller Crucible of Storms, which focuses on the Naga, as all things should.

I confess, I didn’t watch the video. Did they give any sort of arrival date for the new content, or is it just “whenever it’s ready”?

Thank you for understanding that I’m not big on “developer talking to an audience” videos.

Cheers,

DargorV .

BFA is not more of the same. Its crappy watered down slogging thro #Timewasted version of its old self.

I’ve been saying it, but WoW fanboys refuse to believe me.

WoD and Legion are like TBC 2.0 – one is going back to Outland to fight demons, the other is about going to a place like Outland 2.0 to fight demons. BfA is literally Vanilla 2.0 – the Horde vs the Alliance.

Blizzard ran out of ideas with WoTLK – that’s where the story of the Warcraft universe ended and they started pulling crap out of their asses to keep making money. Before WoTLK, the game was driven by a story, from CATA until now and for the future, the story is driven by the game – they have some lame ideas about gameplay and they come up with some lame story to back it up as they go along.

I bet the next expansion will be about snow, Lich Kings and Scourge… or old gods. They literally have nothing original going on – they reiterate the same plots over and over. It’s sad that the WoW fanboys are so blinded by their fandom that they refuse to see the reality of this.

The only things Blizzard can do to make something original is to work on WoW 2. And WoW 2 can be two things:

1. A huge cataclysm, like a real one, that destroys Azeroth where the current landmass sinks underwater and old landmass from the Sundering surfaces again and, of course, some 10-20 years pass so the newly appeared zones can grow some grass and trees and the conflict continues, on entirely new zones, new quests and new gameplay.

There are no flying mounts and traveling takes time and requires people to think, avoid aggressive mobs and enemy faction players, not just travel, go to the toilet or proceed to jack off.

And most importantly, all the world is open, save for dungeons, even traveling between continents is seamless and there is no empty sea with nothingness, even traveling takes real time and it’s slow and full of encounters.

2. They make the story take place in a pre-Sundering Azeroth where it was one huge landmass, night elves don’t exist yet, there are the hybrids that are no longer trolls and aren’t yet fully night elves. There are no orcs, no forsaken, etc…

Feels insane to realize they never had racial sets in the game before. Which is one of the biggest complaints i have in the game, even Vanilla.

The other being the lack of War3 class sets and class fantasy being screwed up when the game became a MMO ( lack of spearthrowers, assassins, headhunters, axe throwers, and such )

It will be called “Pigtails of Vengeance” if the fine print waters down these needed changes! >.<

“That sounds threatening, Uta.”

Well…it really means said appendages will move around more excitedly in protest. And some may find that annoying….so I am sorta giving a heads up about it. I doubt you’d seem charging their studio gates in Irvine if that’s the impressing I was giving off. o.O

I’m so glad they aren’t adding new reputations for the requirements of Kul Tiran and Zandalari allied race unlocks. It almost felt certain that’d be the case until they announced this. I cannot wait to make characters of both races.

This sounds awesome! I’ve always wanted that kind of faction-split raid. Some great flavor to be mined there.

The two-boss raid sounds sweet too. (I liked it with Gruul’s Lair at least.)

I wasn’t playing around the time of Legion invasions but have heard good things about them. Definitely curious to see what they do with that in BFA.

Me, “Hmmm… what are these cracks forming in this wall?”

Blizzard, “no no no… look over here… see… shiny!”

I remember Tides of Vengeance being thrown around as a potential expansion name leak for what we now know as BfA. They weren’t far from the truth.

Blizz put in a copy right for it years ago so not so much a leak.

Same. I haven’t loved an expansion this much since Wrath.

More so than Legion? Wondering, since they are the same game mechanics / design, but you get more content in Legion.
