BlizzCon 2018: World of Warcraft gets a new charity pet and a new cinematic

I can stop any time I want.

The opening ceremonies are over, and we didn’t get a whole lot of news about World of Warcraft just yet, but we did get some. There’s also a new charity pet available to benefit Code.org and a new cinematic for the game, featuring Anduin and Saurfang chatting with one another, discussing what Saurfang wants for the Horde and Anduin’s need for assistance.

Those looking for Siege of Orgrimmar take two are probably already nodding along with this one.

World of Warcraft Classic has its release date, as it’s aimed at Summer 2019; players with an active subscription will have full access to it, so there will be no additional purchases required. In addition, we’ll be hearing more about patch 8.1 and beyond during the What’s Next panel, which is coming up at 6:30 p.m. EDT with another liveblog from us.

If Blizzard wants to make movies, just make them instead. I would watch the hell out of them.

But it’s kinda tiresome to see them milking this circle of misery already. Enough. Your fans suffered enough. Your games suffered enough.

I hope by the end of this expansion we get cross-faction play. Blizzard should realize by now that continuing to divide the game and playerbase into two opposing sides will do them no favors as the game winds down. Warmode should be a prime example of why the two factions don’t work anymore, because the Alliance is being outnumbered and the only choice folks have is to deal with being on the lower population end or else move over to Horde.

They can have WoW Classic carry the faction vs faction stuff. Just stop pretending that it even is a big deal in the current WoW because after Sylvanas is gone there isn’t enough reason to bother staying at each others’ throats and fighting over nonsense.

I see potential for this: The game loses it’s faction focus, and starts becoming like Guild Wars, where you have groups of players taking control of stuff. You get a more sandboxy experience.

I can dream. Won’t ever happen.

Does this mean we can roll Orcs for the Alliance in 8.2? Maybe Goblins will be next! <3

Ideally we just need cross-faction play.

And if they have Mr. Saurfang lead the charge on that, then I am still all for it! :)

Blizzard should just kill off Saurfang and keep Sylvanas as the warchief of a unapologetically bad guy Horde. They get made to wear the black hats every couple of expansions anyway so why not? It has to be more interesting than turning yet another Horde leader into a raid boss and then replacing her with another bland orc to drone on about honor for an expansion or two until they need to get on the Alliance v Horde merry-go-round again.

I still don’t quite get the repeated ‘Alliance, let’s gang up on the new bad Horde leader, and make sure the Alliance is consistently goody’ Blizz does, and if anything I’m an Alliance player.
Sure there could be a twist at a point, but one can’t deny they’re at least focusing on this pattern again.

I get the sense that Blizzard doesn’t really enjoy evolution.

Lazy writing. Why put the work in to have a character grow over time and show both sides as a proper shade of grey when you got prior expansions you can copy off of? I mean sure, you get hints of Alliance wrong-doing here and there, but it hardly counts when it amounts to “king refused to pay workers for rebuilding city, workers turn into thieves that we go kill” and little else.

And there’s just enough subscribers who either don’t care, or disingenuously argue that the ‘Horde’ has always been evil, that they get away with it. This is reeking heavily of Vol’Jin’s heel-turn, and will likely end the same way too.

One recycling I’m really into is the ‘they’re going to (almost RTS) war AGAIN!!?!?!?’ approach, but all the story I’ve seen so far is that the writers half-assed the depth they could have went to about that (while still retaining the necessary WC cheese).

I love me some Anduin, but man, I had a sliver of hope for the Alliance to get more than that. My bad.

Classic release just in time to “carry” BFA exactly as the lull between expansion is likely to hit, seeing as you need to be subbed to the latter in order to access the earlier.

The 8.1 teaser was excellent as they all tend to be, I wish the game was just as inspired but that appears to be a trend at blizzard since overwatch started releasing all those awesome animated shorts for a game that looks and feels nothing like the promotional material they create for it.
