When Path of Exile’s new Synthesis expansion releases in 10 days, its current Betrayal league will be retired, but as is the custom for Path of Exile, that doesn’t mean it’s going away entirely. Instead, it will be integrated into the core game. Of course, with such an in-depth system, some alterations will have to be made so that it will play nice alongside the myriad other systems already in the game, which is the subject of the latest dev post from Grinding Gear Games.

It’s a lengthy read, but in short, Betrayal’s master Jun will now be introduced to players in Highgate in Act 9. Once players have met her, they’ll have a chance to run into her throughout the game, and in each area where Jun shows up, Players will find three Betrayal encounters, which will function more or less like their league counterparts.

Moreover, upgraded Breachstones are being rebalanced. The experience-gain increase from Tul, Esh, and Xoph stones has been reduced to 100%, while Uul-Netol stones have had theirs reduced to 150%, and Chayula stones have had theirs dropped to 200%. There’s a lot more than that going on, of course, and if you want to know all the fine details, you can find them in the official post.

Meanwhile, however, in another dev blog, the GGG folks are delving into two of the new auras being introduced in the Synthesis expansion, Zealotry and Malevolence. Zealotry is “a new holy themed aura that provides more spell damage, a small increase to spell critical chance, and a chance to create Consecrated Ground on hitting a rare or unique enemy.” The other aura, Malevolence, is “a new arcane themed aura that provides more damage over time, and a small bonus to effect duration,” which makes it ideal for use with chaos spells or anything that focuses on DoT effects.

And last, but not least, if you’ve been anxiously awaiting the opportunity to play Path of Exile on your PlayStation 4, fret not — that’s still happening. “Development has been completed and we are still expecting to launch in mid March,” the devs say, though they won’t be able to provide a specific release date “until around two weeks before the launch.” GGG promises to let players know as soon as that day rolls around, so keep an ear to the ground for more news in the near future.
