Can a game really get a second chance to make a first impression? We may well find out once Shadow Arena, the standalone battle royale game that first debuted as a game mode in Black Desert, kicks off its first closed beta test this coming Thursday, February 27th.[AL:SA]

Shadow Arena pits 40 players against one another in a fight to see who is the last person standing (naturally). Gaining an upper hand requires players to take down monsters in the arena to get equipment and buffs, though the game promises that skill execution and evasive tactics will ultimately win fights. The closed beta test will feature nine different characters, each with a unique fighting style. Closed beta will run from February 27th to March 8th. Those interested in signing up can can now do so.

Readers will recall that the first time Shadow Arena arrived, it was beleaguered by hackers who used the mode to bring ill-gotten gains into BDO proper, though it was still a reportedly fun mode in its own right. Our own Black Desert columnist Carlo offered an excellent synopsis, and we’ve got prior coverage in the list below. Be sure to keep your eyes here as well, as we’ll be having an interview and a giveaway very soon.
