Today’s Warframe update brings a major overhaul of systems and mechanics across the board

24

Review, refresh, and revise. Those are the three words being used repeatedly for today’s large patch for Warframe, and given the content of the patch it feels appropriate. Rather than posting the patch notes ahead of time, the developers have offered up two very long workshop posts explaining all of the many ways in which the game’s mechanics are changing from the top down and how these changes will – hopefully – provide a better experience for players across the board.

And they are far-reaching changes, with shifts to armor values across the board, changes in stat values, changes to enemy aim mechanics to that high-level enemies no longer have aimbot-like accuracy, changes to how enemy groups behave and how their health and armor is calculated… it’s extensive, as mentioned. If you’re curious about why so much is being reviewed, refreshed, and revised, you should check out the full rundown of the changes ahead of playing them for yourself.

These changes sound amazing. I recognize a lot of them are things which were frequently asked for by players. I’m tempted to reinstall warframe and check it out, but the last time I did this, thousands of hours disappeared into the void.

So how is the game for new players now? Last time I even tried it was a couple of years ago. I didn’t like all the wall running stuff and the mission areas starting out felt claustrophobic to me. I seem to also remember having a problem getting around to exits and being overrun with mobs fighting my way out.

Nothing changed.

I seem to also remember having a problem getting around to exits and being overrun with mobs fighting my way out.

That wasn’t the game’s problem to begin with.

Absolutely huge changes, really excited to adjust my builds in the wake of the status changes especially. This is what the community has been asking for for years, so I hope the complaining isn’t too loud.

Anthem visuals and animations has spoiled exosuit sci-fi shooters for me completely, can’t play Warframe anymore. Or maybe it’s Warframe spoiled itself with its ugly low-budged visual style from 2013 when the studio almost got broke because publishers refused to work with the team so they had to go for the cheapest option.

So you prefer a dead game, that was the final nail in the coffin of an once beloved game development company? – Cool story, bro.

By this point it feels like any engagement with 3dom’s tedious trolling is just giving them the attention they want ~sigh~

What do you mean I prefer a dead game? I don’t play Warframe anymore since it has died of old age. 7 years for games is like 90 in human years.

Hilarious post from a person trolling for my attention. Fine, fine, you got it.

You like Anthem. We get it. What I don’t understand is that if Anthem is so awesome, why aren’t you in the game *playing* it instead of coming here to piddle on a game that you have *repeatedly* gone out of your way to make clear you don’t play or like?

Because he’s lonely being the only person still playing Anthem and is hoping to get someone else to play with.

Your crystal ball is severely broken. After 600 hours I have nothing left to do in Anthem, playing Black Desert for months.

Like you ever did.

I’ve purchased about 6k platinum ($150?) once upon a time when the game wasn’t obsolete. Still have about 2k left on the abandoned account.

Full patch notes now available: https://forums.warframe.com/topic/1172454-warframe-revised-update-2720/

The change I’m happiest about is that the latest main storyline mini-quest can now be played without first playing a ton of Railjack missions then hoping for a semi-random event in the Veil Proxima zone! “The New War” now has an entry in the Quests section of the Codex, with the “Chimera Prologue” mini-quest as its first chapter and the mini-quest released at the end of last year as its second chapter.

Second place goes to the removal of self-damage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0qTWghpRMo

I can actually use my Ogris and Lenz now! ^-^ A frustrating thing about self-damage was how weirdly *randomly* they applied it. Some weapons with huge AoE attacks would kill you instantly if you dared to aim at a target in the same room. And yet others, that also did AoE damage, were perfectly safe. Some even switched back and forth.

The most frustrating part though was how many of the “instant death” weapons could detonate when hitting pets or other players. The main reason I had to stop using the Lenz wasn’t that I didn’t know how to aim it. It’s that when I was trying to use it I was also trying to level up one of my doomkitties. And she had the amazing ability to leap in front of me every few shots, in *just* the right way for the arrows to clip her and catch me in the freezing implosion of doom.

I’m hoping that the 90% damage falloff at the edge of the explosion is just temporary though while they look at numbers. Because for most weapons that’s an unbelievably huge nerf that effectively makes explosive weapons into “single target plus makes sure everyone else knows you’re there” attacks. :(

I wish this game would add a refresher course for people who haven’t played in a long time. I tried booting it up half a year ago and it was too much.

Pretty much this ^

After you get a good 10+ hours into the game, the in depth systems start to become a bit more complex and unexplained. Especially when you start reaching major story elements that completely add or change game mechanics.

Then, when you hit “end game”, its just a big mess of “figure it out”

Great game, but it seems to be a growing trend for free 2 play games to have awful systems in place to help teach players…. and the fall back is always “check the wiki”

There doesnt seem to be a happy medium. Other mmo’s suffer from the, “here’s the new content… oops, finished it all in 2 days!” syndrome. I think the only reason the majority of players dont finish new content in warframe that quickly is that they have no idea what they are supposed to do.

Both systems are bad imo.

I’ve been hoping the overhaul they’re planning to the new player experience will help with that kind of thing. But they announced they were working on it at the start of 2019, showed off the fancy new intro cinematic at TennoCon last July, and we’ve barely heard anything since…

Yeah. Absolutely. After a couple of years off, I came back for a taste and…. Can’t make hide nor hair of it. My suits have different powers, my unlocked solar system is spottily relocked, they lost a bunch of my potatoed items, and the Warframe systems are just as obtuse and unexplained as ever.

Having to run private to try and figure out what’s what. At least with this new update, a bunch of other folks will be scratching their heads as well.

Item deletion should never happen, and that’s pretty serious. You might try contacting customer support about that? You’d have to be patient, their support staff is apparently usually pretty overwhelmed and it can take up to two weeks to get a response. I’ve gotten stuff fixed in as little as a day or two, but it can take much longer. Especially right after a big update like this one.

If you haven’t played in a long time I have no idea what they can do, or if there is anything they can do. But other than the time filling out the request there’s not much to lose by trying.

They really do need to add some kind of tutorial system. Expecting people to exit the game and do homework on a player-maintained wiki is honestly pretty awful. Especially since I suspect a lot of people just stop at the “exit the game” part of the process and simply never come back. T-T

If it helps, I’m always happy to answer questions in-game. If you play on PC, I have the same name in Warframe as I do here. (If you wanted to send a friend invite.) The game doesn’t make it easy to tell if a friend is online though, you have to hit Esc then Communications then Friends (I think) to check.
