This coming Saturday, October 10th, will mark the eighth anniversary of Star Citizen’s reveal to the public, which in CIG terms is the game’s official birthday, and that means it’s time to celebrate.

One of the biggest party pieces of the celebration is the launch of alpha 3.11 after a brief stint in open PTU testing. The update, called High Impact, introduces several new weapons, the first opening of cargo decks, three new Origin 100 starter ships, force reactions, and the removal of armistice zones around space ports; get ready to be more easily trolled by folks while trying to land, though turrets and security forces are being added to high traffic zones.

In order to mark the eighth birthday of Star Citizen, players are being handed a number of free items including a unique helmet and suit, an iridescent pistol, and a birthday edition of Pico the Penguin. There will also be other goings-on including a birthday AMA on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. EDT and a letter from Chris Roberts to the community that same day.

Finally, there’s some Halloween shenanigans with three freaky-looking helmets — two of which can be earned exclusively in-game — as well as the return of the annual pumpkin carving contest and a thematic skin for purchase for the Drake Cutlass.
