The Daily Grind: What are the best and worst snowy zones in MMOs?

It’s sort of a running joke around here that I am not a big fan of snowy “northern climate” zones in MMORPGs. We had a solid decade there when we were being absolutely deluged with Viking-knockoff movies, books, and games. I’m not even sure the phase is over yet, honestly, and I got really, really sick of it, in spite of previously having been a fan. I even modded my copy of Skyrim to make it greener and less like, well, George R.R. Martin had been turned loose in it with a pen, a rough accent, and a whole lot of beards.

Of course, there are exceptions to this – snowy zones that actually do work wonders for me. For example, Frostgorge Sound is one of my favorite zones in Guild Wars 2, and let’s be real, it’s just another one of these snow zones, complete with a glacier and Viking-like Norns. But it’s also super pretty, with pretty music, effects, and the kodan. The kodan make up for a lot. And so does the snow particle effect. It’s just magical.

What would you say are the best and worst snowy zones in MMOs?
