Those missing the halcyon days of the real-time strategy craze may be in for a revival of sorts, as a group of ex-Blizzard developers at Frost Giant Studios are making a StarCraft-inspired title called Stormgate. Better still, the project is blowing up the charts on Kickstarter as it is raking in many times its original goal.
With over a month to go, Stormgate’s crowdfunding campaign already has over $1.7 million raised over its initial $100,000 ask (the latter which was covered in the first 15 minutes). Frost Giant said that it was founded to create the “next great Blizzard-style RTS.”
Stormgate is being described as a “hyper-responsive real-time strategy game” with a campaign, three-player co-op, an editor, and 1v1 and 3v3 PvP modes. Steam early access is planned for next summer.
“Stormgate pays tribute to the classic Warcraft and StarCraft real-time strategy games that we loved working on,” said the devs. “It should feel familiar, like a true spiritual successor to those games.”
