The World of Warcraft team and Blizzard at large has seen another one of its long-standing senior devs leave the company. After 12 years, general manager John Hight announced on Twitter that he’s leaving the company.
“It was a tough decision, but I feel like now is as good a time as any: Warcraft is in an amazing position as the universe turns 30,” Hight opens, followed by expressions of gratitude to the game’s playerbase and his confidence in the teams working on WoW and other related titles. “I know you’ll take WoW, Hearthstone, and Rumble to new heights, and I can’t wait to experience your vision alongside other players,” he writes.
As for what he’ll be doing next, he hasn’t shared any details, but did confirm that he’s “excited to explore new opportunities and challenges in the industry, and to continue making great games with talented people.”
Hight’s career at Blizzard has been a lengthy one indeed; he began as senior producer for Mists of Pandaria, then took over as executive producer and vice president of the Warcraft franchise before becoming general manager in November 2021. Hight also helped with production of Diablo III and its Reaper of Souls expansion.
After 12 incredible years at Blizzard, I’ve decided to step away & start a new quest.
It was a tough decision, but I feel like now is as good a time as any: Warcraft is in an amazing position as the universe turns 30.
I’ve been so honored to serve all of the heroes of Azeroth.
