Multiplayer RTS ZeroSpace previews an ‘MMO mode’ called Galactic War

Crowdfunded indie RTS ZeroSpace has released a view video previewing the Galactic War mode, described as an MMO within the game. The Galactic War looks to be a hybrid between StarCraft II‘s co-op missions, Helldivers II‘s ongoing galactic battle, and the realm vs. realm conflicts of MMORPGs.

Players start by choosing one of three alliances, described as being akin to the Horde or Alliance of World of Warcraft and are separate from the playable factions you choose in-match. Each alliance starts at the edge of a galactic map and pushes towards the centre by capturing planets. The first alliance to reach the centre of the galaxy wins, and then a new war will begin.

But while the meta conflict is PvP, the actual gameplay of this mode is PvE. Players earn points toward capturing planets for their alliance by participating in short versus AI scenarios that are playable solo or co-op. Aside from helping push toward the galactic centre, capturing a planet also unlocks powerful buffs for your alliance. Because it’s a PvE mode, these buffs can be crazy powerful; heal abilities spawning free units is floated as a possibility.

Finally, the devs are clearly taking a page from StarCraft II co-op, as players in the galactic war will be able to level up their faction to earn bonuses not available to the PvP version of that faction.

The video also showcases an updated UI for the game and some new units, including what looks to be a massive air unit for the Legion faction.
