It’s time once more for CIG to show off its monthly progress for Star Citizen, and as followers of the alpha game might expect, a lot of what was done last month was focused on alpha 3.24, though there are some of the usual forward-looking tidbits as well.

The vast majority of the update was focused on enemy AI behaviors, with continued work to improve threat response speeds, clean up movement pathing, add bespoke behaviors unique to Pyro NPCs, and enhance the UI for one of the devs’ AI scripting tools.

The core gameplay section also had a lot to share, with some highlights including more specific resource behavior for spaceships that will eventually replace current “soft death,” polishing the screen for engineering gameplay, and improving the room selection UI for life support functions. This portion of the report also brought up a “MissionFactory” service that will generate contracts for players to complete while presumably using less resources to do so.

Meanwhile, the game’s weekly video digest is almost entirely about space cows – otherwise known as omni-grazers – that are due to arrive in alpha 4.0 alongside some new character customization options like facial tattoos, hairstyles, and stubble.

Longtime MMORPG gamers will know that Star Citizen was originally Kickstarted for over $2M back in 2012 with a planned launch for 2014. As of 2024, it still lingers in an incomplete but playable alpha, having raised over $700M from gamers over years of continuing crowdfunding and sales of in-game ships and other assets. It is currently the highest-crowdfunded video game ever and has endured both indefatigable loyalty from advocates and immense skepticism from critics. A co-developed single-player title, Squadron 42, has also been repeatedly delayed.
