Do you remember DreamWorld? It came to our attention back in 2021 when its inexperienced developers laid out huge promises as part of its Kickstarter drive while suspicions only deepened when an ex-fiancee called out some of the projects fibs (but also said the devs weren’t scammers). The game went on to release the most alpha product of all time, then put out an early access build in 2022.
So what’s been happening since then? Weekly updates according to the game’s own news site, which have applied several features like a world boss fight, performance improvements, and a whole slew of bug fixes, as well as a move away from paid early access and into free-to-play alpha at some point. Now the game is readying to make its way to Steam with an upcoming playtest on October 10th and the ultimate goal of shifting away from its own native launcher to Steam instead.
This playtest isn’t just noteworthy for DreamWorld’s shift over to the platform, as it will also introduce a new text-to-3D tool that “allows players to build with any 3D model they want” by simply entering a text prompt and having an AI-powered tool generate the item in-game. Testing will run for at least a month but possibly longer, but it will be limited in scope according to developer DreamWorld Realities.
