Do you know how outlandish a feature has to be before the devs of Project Gorgon have to call it outlandish? It’s outlandish indeed, my friends, and this week it refers very specifically to an unparalleled genetics engine for ridable horses in an MMORPG: Horse breeding has come to the indie sandbox MMORPG.

“[W]e’ve modeled the genetics of ridable horses, using over 1500 genes to create nearly-countless possible horses, including many real-world horse breeds as well as fantasy ones,” Elder Game says in its latest patch notes. “When these horses mate, we use real-world genetics rules to create offspring that are a realistic mix of both parents. These genes control the horse’s appearance, speed, temperament, and more.” Players will be able to make use of a range of skills in-game to figure out how to breed their horses and yes, even view horse genomes with the genetics skill.

The patch also includes archery changes, and new UI and physics settings, the first stages of what will eventually become instanced apartments in Statehelm. This soft launch of housing is actually styled as guild halls and can be tested out by high-end guild players right now. You can put the system through its paces with decor, guild chests, and more, just be warned:

“Note: this is the first time we’ve ever had instanced areas in Project: Gorgon. Adding this required significant new technology. And while we’re 99% sure all of this new code is perfectly debugged, we don’t recommend dropping any precious heirloom items on the ground in your Guild Hall during this soft launch.”
