The Daily Grind: Do you actually care enough about cosmetics in MMORPGs to buy them?

You know, we joke a lot about how “fashion wars is the real endgame in MMOs,” but it’s not always true. I know there are some of you who really couldn’t be bothered at all about cosmetics unless they fall in your lap. I know this because I’m married to somebody like that. In Guild Wars 2, for example, he has purchased zero outfits. He has purchased zero weapon skins. He has purchased zero mount skins (though I’m thinking about surprising him with the new steampunk skyscale because it’s awesome). And only recently did he sit down and style his main character with dyes and some of the gear unlocks he’d randomly acquired over the last 12 years. Some folks just can’t be bothered!

Do you actually care about cosmetics in MMORPGs? Is it really something you buy a lot of, or just something you admire from afar?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
