At the top of the month we cast a spotlight on Towers of Aghasba, a co-op survival sandbox for up to four players that tasks them with restoring ancestral tribal lands to growth after a ravaging force known as the Withered dried the region of life. If that premise sounded intriguing to you, then you’re getting your fill of information from developer Dreamlit Games as the studio has put forth a roadmap and a behind-the-scenes video.
The roadmap outlines the plans for development as Aghasba moves through its early access, with plans for things like a new spirit god, a mount management system, multiplayer-specific activities like quests and creatures, and new regions. The game is also hoping to get cross-platform play between Steam and PlayStation 5 over the course of its development. Dreamlit goes out of its way to say that feature timing is subject to change, but the roadmap as it stands now can be seen by clicking the image below.
On top of roadmap plans, the studio put forth a 35 minute-long preview video that talks about the design and gameplay of Aghasba. The devs discuss influences like Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the anime Nausicaä, showcase how they used hand-painted art for the game’s textures, and talked up spatial sound tech that immerses players in the game’s world.
Most of the runtime talks up gameplay elements: Players can expect a large play space that takes roughly 30 minutes to cross on foot, which is described as “a blank canvas for [players’] nature building.” The footage runs down some expected features like crafting and building, as well as some of the more unique things like distinct methods of material gathering, ways that players can work together for mutual benefit such as one player swimming in a lake to corral fish for another player to shoot at with a bow, and how long-established colossal trees affect fauna. It’s a pretty comprehensive and honest look at what to expect ahead of the game’s early access release on Tuesday, November 19th.
