Last week saw another quirk-filled patch for MechWarrior Online go live, but that’s not because it was full of bugs; it’s because it was full of updates to chassis quirks. It’s quirky but in a good way! Unless the quirks for your favorite war machine end up being nerfs. Then they’re sad quirks.
The patch made a lineup of tweaks to the latent abilities to a wide assortment of ‘mech variants, particularly the Arctic Cheetah, Urbanmech, Nova Cat, and the Wolverine, along with smaller tweaks to chassis like the Mad Dog, Summoner, and Trebuchet. And just in case that list wasn’t enough, there’s now a new ‘mech up for sale in the form of the Bane, a 100-ton assault monster that fields several “boat” configurations (aka single weapon types) that offer “insane” firepower at the cost of less armor.
In other MechWarrior news, the multiplayer title MechWarrior 5: Clans has released the Trials of War DLC this week, introducing a harder new Trueborn difficulty mode for the campaign, a new horde mode that pits player teams against an endless wave of AI ‘mechs, a five-player PvP arena, and 12 new omnimech variants. What’s more, the host of a multiplayer game is the only person who has to own the $20 DLC in order for other friends to enjoy its additions.
This new DLC release comes alongside a general update for MW5: Clans that applies improvements to the mission menu, adds a new abort mission button that takes players back to the loadout screen if a campaign mission is going very badly, lets players take over AI ‘mechs via the command wheel, and applies a whole host of multiplayer bug fixes.
